We recently held our annual Senior Officers’ Conference, bringing together our colleagues from sea and shore for a few days of meaningful discussions and valuable insights.
This year’s conference brought our together colleagues with a clear purpose: to strengthen collaboration and shared direction across our business.
With topics such as leadership, mindset and values, we aligned on what matters in our daily operations. That shared understanding is an essential part of keeping our fleet moving safely across the globe.
In addition, the conference was combined with Bridge Resource Management (BRM) and Engine Resource Management (ERM) refresher training for our senior officers, turning experience into action and learning into everyday practice.
TURNING EXPERIENCE INTO EVERYDAY PRACTICE
Continuous training remains essential for ensuring safety on board our vessels. It is an investment in both our people and our safety approach.
Through BRM, our officers trained in full‑mission bridge simulators, working with realistic scenarios where communication, teamwork and situational awareness make the difference. The focus was on building confidence in decision‑making and strengthening cooperation on the bridge. Additionally, ERM gave our engine officers the opportunity to train safe watchkeeping, machinery operation and human factors. Using simulators, participants trained both routine and emergency situations, sharpening awareness in complex operational environments.
“Continuous training creates confidence – and confident officers make safer decisions. Simulator‑based training allows us to practise real situations in a safe environment and build the strong teamwork we rely on at sea,” says Martin Andersen, Crew Manager.
STRENGTHENING COLLABORATION ACROSS OUR BUSINESS
One of the key takeaways from the conference was the value of being able to share experiences and perspectives across sea and shore. Through our open panel discussion, we had an open dialogue on topics such as safety culture, maintenance and leadership approach, contributing to a shared understanding of the challenges our senior officers face.
At Uni‑Tankers, we are proud to see the strong engagement and commitment shown by our colleagues – both at sea and ashore. By bringing people together at the Senior Officers’ Conference, we continue to strengthen collaboration, build trust and nurture the unique DNA that keeps us moving forward.
